When a spot or stain occurs on a carpet, first and foremost, ACT QUICKLY! The longer a spot or stain remains in the carpet the harder it is to get out. Be careful not to use too much water on any area. NEVER USE BLEACH!
- Blot the carpet with clean white towels (NEVER RUB OR BRUSH!!!) to absorb as much liquid as possible.
- Use a scraper or a spoon to remove any solid material from the carpet.
- Apply appropriate “spot remover” to a clean white towel, then blot onto the area.
- Always work toward the center of the spot when cleaning a stain on a carpet.
- Repeat steps, if necessary, and always blot between steps with a clean white towel.
- Always do a test spot on a portion of carpet not normally visible first.
- Vacuum regularly to remove dirt dust and grit. Dust is enemy number one, and the longer it stays, the more deeply it becomes embedded. We recommend an upright vacuum with a beater bar for best results.
- Use mats at entrances. It’s amazing how this will help protect your carpet.
- Experts recommend professional carpet cleaning at least once a year, depending on traffic. Regular cleaning will help preserve the carpet fibers, and keep the colors brighter. Many households call a professional cleaner after pollen season, while others prefer to clean their carpets just before the year-end holiday season.
- Upholstered furniture also needs to be regularly vacuumed to remove surface dust and grit. If possible, rotate and reverse cushions on couches and chairs. Fading and wear will be less noticeable. To prevent dirt from damaging the fabrics, have your upholstered pieces professionally cleaned every 18 to 24 months.
